Scottish timber traders turn out in force in Edinburgh for STTA dinner

7 March 2022

The Scottish Timber Trade Association (STTA) had a successful first dinner since the Covid-19 pandemic started, with 175 people attending the March 4 event in Edinburgh.

The STTA, established in 1910, has been holding dinners at the Balmoral Hotel for decades, but all its events have had to be online since early 2020.

Several awards were presented during the evening, with BSW Timber winning two awards – the Carbon Reduction Award for its planting efforts to offset vehicle emissions and the Rising Star Award which went to BSW’s Mark Walker for his progression as an apprentice through the business and commitment back to training others.

James Donaldson and Sons won the Best Marketing Campaign with its TimberCut4U brand which has seen real success in online sales with a targeted social media campaign.

“It was great to see the industry get together and to have David Hopkins and Karen Sussex attend from Timber Development UK, as well as Sarah Virgo from Wood for Good and Andy Leitch from Confor attending the evening as well,” said the STTA.

Sponsors during the evening included James Jones & Sons, MKM Building Supplies, Timber Development UK and James Donaldson and Sons.

A total of £1,856 was collected for the Timber Trades’ Benevolent Society.
