Steico wood fibre insulation board expansion moves forward

18 November 2021

Wood fibre insulation board manufacturer Steico is advancing with significant investment plans in production capacity across Europe.

At the Polish site in Gromadka, excavation began at the beginning of September for the construction of a new plant for the production of wood fibre insulation materials.

Looking further forward, in 2022/2023, three large production plants are to go into operation for Steico: two for flexible wood fibre insulation mats with a production capacity of over 1 million m3 / year and one for wood fibre insulation boards with a 500,000m3 / year capacity using the dry production process.

The possibility of further expansion of the Gromadka site to double its production capacity has already been taken into account in the planning.

The Gromadka site is conveniently located 70 km east of Görlitz on the Polish A4 motorway. The property is part of a former airport that is currently being converted into a commercial area. It was acquired by Steico in November 2020.

With this investment, STEICO would like to ensure long-term supply in the rapidly growing market for wood fibre insulation materials.

In the short term, two new production plants are to go into operation at existing locations in the fourth quarter of 2021: one for stable wood fibre insulation boards from the dry process with a production capacity of 250,000m3 / year in Casteljaloux, France, and one for stable wood fibre insulation boards from the wet process with a production capacity of 135,000m3 / year in Czarna Woda, Poland.

In the past few months, the production capacities for the flexible wood fibre insulation mat STEICOflex and for blown-in insulation have already been increased significantly through targeted investments.
