Swedscot’s plans follow a successful relocation from Inverness to Cumbernauld earlier this year – a move which gave it more control over its logistics.
Swedscot director Steven McRitchie said the company was also looking to increase its customer base in the joinery manufacturing and roofing contractor sectors, while a doubling of the current turnover of several million pounds was being targeted within three years.
"We hope to get a customer base we can service in the north-east of England and have a mirror operation of Cumbernauld," said Mr McRitchie. "Within the next two to three years we would like to have a base there,"
Swedscot already brings truck-loads of products into Immingham.
Mr McRitchie said moving from Inverness had been key to its expansion plans, as restricted quay access there and related logistics difficulties had held back Swedscot’s ability to expand.
"We can now be what we have always wanted to be – not in the hands of somebody else," he said.
He said it was good news when independent timber companies expanded as they could bring a greater flexibility of service.
Swedscot, whose main customers are merchants and housebuilders, is looking to expand its product range from its current portfolio of machined softwoods (including PSE and skirting boards), roofing battens, decking and construction timber. About 70% of Swedscot’s timber products are for internal use.
