Top rugby referee earns standing ovation at Bristol trade dinner

14 February 2023

Former international rugby referee Nigel Owens received a standing ovation for an excellent and thoughtful speech and entertainment at the annual Western Timber Trade Association dinner in Bristol on February 10.

About 170 timber trade representatives and guests attended the longstanding event at the Bristol Hotel, sponsored by James Latham.

WTTA chairman Phil McCormick welcomed guests to the event, introduced speaker Nigel Owens and presided over a timber industry long service awards initiative to recognise trade representatives who had contributed to the industry over many years.

The three people who receive the 50 year service awards were Tony Quinn, of Pontrilas Timber Merchants Ltd; Tony Charles of Nicks & Co Timber Ltd; and Nick Ambrozejczyk (now retired) – the Secretary of the WTTA.

A raffle and auction raised £2,935 for the Timber Trades Benevolent Society.

Andy Hodge, Arxada marketing director (EMEA), will be taking over the reins as WTTA chairman in March.
