The Timber Trade Federation (TTF) has consolidated the list of approved auditors for its Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP) following concerns expressed by members.

From the start of April, the list now comprises Ligna Ltd and Soil Association Woodmark.

TTF sustainability manager Anand Punja said concerns had been expressed by members of The Federation’s Forests Forever environmental committee that the number of approved auditors was not helping in promoting a consistent approach to due diligence.

In a circular to members, Mr Punja said he believed the move was a significant step forward to ensuring the credibility of the RPP remained high.

“Given that this is such a key year for the RPP, in particular as we promote it to the wider timber customer base, the decision has been taken to consolidate the list of approved auditors to improve the overall level of consistency for RPP audits,” he said.

Audits already started with other auditors on the previous list can be completed, otherwise they will be re-allocated to the two companies on the revised list.

Other changes will be implemented later this year to improve the overall quality of RPP auditing, including introducing an aspect of looking at TTF members’ performance in reducing risk over time.
