Jurassic Stone sources the fossilised logs from the Black Sea region, laps and polishes them and, if required, mounts them on a stone plinth.

The company says the timber dates back to between 230 and 180 million years – the late Triassic and early Jurassic periods. It originates from tropical forest which covered the area.

The fossilised wood is classed as a semi-precious stone and has a Mohs hardness rating of 7, the same as quartz crystal.

Jurassic declined to disclose the cost of the ornaments.
